Simple Joys of Life

Every morning, while I drive to class or internship (which are both over an hour away from where I live) I listen to the local country station. Sometimes they have this early early morning talk show where people call in to tell the world about their simple pleasures of life. For some, it's to have hot dogs in the fridge for when they get back, or to have their dogs great them when they come home from work, while to others it's to have a meaningful conversation with their teenage daughter. Those  are all simple pleasures of life I've heard, I did not just make them up.

Wanna know my simple pleasure in life?
-Being able to go through the metal detector every morning that I work at the prison without setting it off AND finding out that bringing in my diary and a pen was NOT contraband.  Therefore, I can now spend the whole day there and be writing in my diary during lunch break instead of simply being grossed out and nauseous by my environment.

My biggest frustration right now?
- I just realized the critic paper I stayed up writing last night till 3:30 am and that is due Tuesday morning was written about the wrong article.... Yep, I know have to read another 20 page long article, write a critic, go to work tomorrow, study for statistics test on Tuesday....

I am so grateful this week isn't a full :)

  2. :) My greatest pleasure and biggest frustration are right now one and the same. I love coming home and being able to go to the kitchen, use my knives, and whip up something good. It has also become frustrating however, because I now identify cooking with work, so when I come home the last thing I want to do is cook / bake :(

  4. Haha. Well, first off, that wont solve the issue of me no longer enjoying cooking at home. Second, most people are telling me the opposite; because I cook I can get a wife who cant.

  5. I definitely agree with the simple pleasure of coming home to a dog who is always happy to see me and ready to play. I was in the middle of writing a post about how we can learn lessons about personal attitudes from dogs... maybe I should go back and finish it.

It's a wonderful thing to be able to recognize and enjoy life's simply pleasures. As Koheles says, everything we have is a Matat Elokim - a gift from G-d - and we should enjoy and be thankful for what He has given us.

This is an especially good lesson to have in mind around Rosh Hashana time, so thanks for reminding me!

  6. @Professor: nooo dont mix business with pleasure

@shades of grey: Im scared of dogs, an unreasonable fear I know but i'm working on it!
And yes its a good thing to have in mind while you're praying for all that you need or want, to first be grateful abt what u at least have

  7. Easier said than done. When you finish a thirteen hour shift, the last thing you want to do is cook. Even eating is hard, anything connected with food is a no-no. In general its great having a job you love, running a catering business is amazing; it just takes the fun out of cooking for myself.
